We did not test these appliances ourselves. This guide is based on OTTO's product pages, Samsung's specs and deal prices from 20 Oct 2026. Energy and noise figures are manufacturer claims. Always check the energy label on the product page before buying.

Reading the energy label

Washing machines have used the new A to G label since 2021, and class A is very good there. Tumble dryers moved to a new A to G scale in July 2025 as well. These classes cannot be compared with the old A+++: a heat pump dryer rated C on the new label is not an energy hog. The best comparison is the kWh figure, which is also on the label.

Working out running costs

Electricity costs depend on three things: the consumption per cycle on the label, your electricity price and how often you wash or dry. Multiply the consumption per cycle by your price per kWh and the number of cycles per year. For washing machines, add the water. Full loads and eco programmes lower the cost per kilo of laundry.

Capacity: how much do you need?

Singles and couples often manage with 6 to 7 kg, families benefit from 8 kg or more. A dryer drum can be larger than the washer's, because laundry needs room to dry. So a 7 kg washer and a 9 kg dryer work well together.

Noise

For washing machines, the label shows the noise during the spin cycle, the loudest phase. For dryers, the figure refers to the drying cycle. If the appliance sits in your flat or near a bedroom, check this value and use delay start so it runs when it does not bother you.

Stacking and installation

Many dryers can be stacked on a washer with a matching stacking kit. This usually only works with appliances of the same width and a kit approved by the manufacturer. Hanseatic and Samsung are different brands, so check this before buying. A heat pump dryer needs no vent hose: the condensed water goes into a tank or down a drain hose.
