UVP: What the Recommended Retail Price Means
UVP stands for unverbindliche Preisempfehlung, the non-binding recommended retail price (RRP). The manufacturer uses it to suggest a selling price, but retailers are free to deviate from it.
What the RRP is
The RRP is a guideline from the manufacturer. Retailers don't have to stick to it and may sell both below and above it.
Why the market price is often lower
Many products, especially tech, are offered well below the RRP shortly after launch. A discount on the RRP therefore says little about whether the price is really good.
RRP or strikethrough price?
The strikethrough price is a retailer's previous price. Since 2022, retailers in Germany must state the lowest price of the last 30 days for price reductions. On perldeals you can also see the price history, which is the best benchmark.
FAQ
Can a retailer sell above the RRP?
Yes. The RRP is non-binding; retailers set their own prices.
What does "instead of RRP" mean on perldeals?
We always state which comparison price a discount refers to, i.e. the RRP or the shop's strikethrough price, and show the price history.
